DENVER - The University of Denver women's lacrosse team returns home on Saturday for a game against the Georgetown Hoyas. Opening draw is set for 11 a.m. MT at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
The Pioneers own a 9-5 all-time record against the Hoyas and have won the last six meetings between the two programs. In their last meeting, Denver overcame a four goal deficit at the start of the fourth quarter to defeat Georgetown, 11-10 on Mrch 29, 2024 in Washington D.C.
2025 CAPTAINS
- The Pioneers selected redshirt senior Raegan Wilson and seniors Lauren Black and Caroline Colimore as captains for the 2025 season.
- Wilson missed the part of the 2024 season due to injury but appeared in 14 games for the Pioneers.Â
- Black was third on the Pioneers, recording 59 points on 38 goals and 21 assists. The New Westminster, British Columbia native was an All-Big East First team selection a year ago as well as the 2022 Big East Freshman of the Year. She also bring international experience to the Pioneers, having played for Team Canada last summer.
- Colimore started in all 20 games for the Pioneers last season and was third on the squad with 30 goals and six assists. The midfielder recorded 10 multi-goal games and a career-high four goals in the Big East title game against Connecticut. The Maryland native was a 2024 All-Big East First team selection.
EARLY CONTRIBUTORS
- Four first years on the Denver squad were named to the ILWomen 2024 Power 100 Incoming Freshmen Rankings: Eva Thomsen-Marr, Megan Morneau, Caroline Bowers and Lexi Gwaku.
- Thomsen-Marr ranks fourth on the Pioneers with 21 points on 12 goals and 9 assists. Her nine assists are tied for third-best on the squad.
- Bowers has appeared in all ten games so far this season and scored 13 goals with one helper. • Gwaku has appeared in goal on six occasions for 108 minutes. She has made 17 save, including a career-high 9 saves against [18] Stony Brook, and owns a 9.02 GAA.
- Â Redshirt freshman Alex Dorr leads the Pioneers with 60 wins in the draw circle, 2 wins from breaking into the top-10 for most draw control wins by a Pioneer in a single season.Â
"HOT PINK" DEFENSE
- Denver ranks 26th in scoring defense, allowing an average ot 9.80 goals per game, good for third in the Big East.
- Denver has forced 7+ caused turnovers in all but three games over the last four seasons.
- Senior Sarah Pokorny leads the Big East and is 24th in the nation, averaging 2.00 caused turnovers per game.
- The Pios return starting goalkeeper Emelia Bohi who's 10.69 goals against average is good for 43rd in the country.
