HOMESTEAD, Fla. – The Denver Pioneers women's triathlon team wrapped up its 2025 spring season last Friday with the Americas Cup Miami race at Homestead Miami Speedway.
DU had two athletes race in the third Americas Triathlon Cup event of 2025 and the first on U.S. soil. Sophomore
Maira Carreau placed 13th with a time of 56:40 while freshman
Ava Pfaff was 43rd in 59:43
Carreau had the fifth-quickest bike split in the field at 27:28 after 20 kilometers and posted times of 10:11 in the 750-meter swim and 18:01 in the 5K run. Overall, she was fifth-fastest among athletes born in 2003 or earlier.
Pfaff finished in a time of 59:43 (9:59/27:35/20:56), which was the third-best mark among athletes of her age in the field (born in 2006).
The swim course went the entire length of the pond in the middle of the speedway before the athletes turned around and did half the length back before departing the water. The bike was a four-lap course that began on the inside of the race track before going around three-fourths of the outside oval loop. The run was two laps that also began on the inside race course and then transitioned into the outside oval course for two laps and finishing inside the pit area.
The air temperature for the race was 69 degrees Fahrenheit while the water temperature was 76 degrees.
