DENVER – Lucrezia Gowdy of Jacksonville, Florida, is set to join the University of Denver women's triathlon team for the upcoming 2025 fall regular season.
The incoming freshman joins the Pioneers following 11th and 18th-place finishes in the two U25 Elite Development Races at the Clermont Challenge on March 1-2. Additionally, she was 16th in the Pleasant Prairie Junior Elite Cut and 20th in the Jenny Lee Junior Elite Cup in June 2025.
"I really liked the environment that both the triathlon team and the campus provided,"
Gowdy said. "DU has strong academics and a great study abroad program that I intend to participate in. I also love the mountains and the cooler weather."
Gowdy finished 14th at the 2024 U.S. Junior Nationals in Iowa and was fifth in the youth elite category at the 2024 Texas Draft-Legal Festival Triathlon.
A graduate of Episcopal School of Jacksonville this past spring, Gowdy ran cross country at her school, earning team MVP honors three times and helping her program to second place in the state of Florida in 2022. She also participated in club swimming with the Bolles Sharks.
Gowdy intends to major in biological sciences and Italian at DU. She was inducted into the Cum Laude Society in 2024 and joined both the National Honor Society and National Art Honor Society in 2023. She served as an Eagle Ambassador at ESJ where she volunteered at school events and helped future and new students transition to the school and was also a member of the Rethreaded Club that helped women who have been a victim of sexual abuse. Gowdy speaks Italian and is currently learning Spanish.
