Denver triathlon racing in Fort Worth once again for regionals
FORT WORTH, Texas – The University of Denver Pioneers women's triathlon returns to Texas on Sunday as the team gets set for the 2026 Western Regional Championships at Marine Creek Reservoir.
Â
This will be the second straight season that DU is racing regionals at the venue after also competing in the Texas Christian University-hosted event last year. Overall. This is the fourth straight year that the Pios have raced on the course after also taking part in the Battle in the Fort Triathlon at the venue in both 2023 and 2024.
Â
The Division-I race gets underway at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday.
Â
Denver's last race was two weeks ago as five student-athletes competed on Oct. 4 at the Navy Collegiate Cup, which had to be changed to a duathlon due to water conditions.
Â
The Pioneers will have eight athletes racing in graduate student Coco Reed, senior Maira Carreau, junior Rebecca Nolan, sophomores Mia Stanley-Hunt, Jenna Topott and Olivia Wimberger and freshmen Lucy Eggleston and Samantha Perry.
Â
Carreau has played on the All-Region Team in each of her previous three years and won the Eastern Regional Championships as a freshman in 2023.
Â
The course at Marine Creek will be the same as in 2025, as the triathletes will complete just a single triangular swim in the lake at 750 meters. From the water on the east side of the reservoir, the athletes will run up a hill to transition for the four-lap bike portion totaling 20 kilometers. The bike course through adjacent Tarrant County College and along Marine Creek Parkway features several technical portions that are narrow with tight turns. The 5K run is on a two-lap course on the campus and runs parallel to most of the bike route.
Â
The other collegiate teams racing this weekend are Arizona, Arizona State, Black Hills State, Drury, Cal Poly Humboldt, Central College, Chicago State, Colorado Mea, Concordia, North Central College, San Francisco, South Dakota and TCU.
