Men’s Golf Set for Mark Simpson-Colorado Invitational

DENVER – The University of Denver men's golf team returns to action at the Mark Simpson-Colorado Invitational, Sept. 29-30, at Boulder Country Club. The Pioneers will compete in a 17-team field hosted by the University of Colorado.

The field includes Arkansas State, Air Force, Boise State, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Long Beach State, Missouri-Kansas City, Nevada, Northern Colorado, Pacific, San Diego, UTEP, Utah, Utah State, Utah Valley and Wyoming.

LAST TIME OUT

Denver is coming off a runner-up finish at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, where the Pioneers tied UTEP for second at 15-under. Denver closed the tournament with a 9-under 279 in the final round, while Arthur Akpinar finished runner-up individually at 8-under. Ryder Odem tied for sixth at 6-under and Brayden Bozak tied for 16th at 2-under.

Akpinar will lead the Pioneers again this week, joined by Bozak, Odem, Jet Hernandez and Zander Grant.

INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION

Four Pioneers competed individually Monday at the Les Fowler CU Individual Invitational at Bear Creek Golf Club. Dallin Delgado leads Denver in seventh at 1-over 145, followed by Matt Novak tied for 10th at 3-over 147, Austin Hunt tied for 13th at 5-over 149 and Chase Kacher tied for 19th at 7-over 151.

The final round is set for Tuesday.

THE PIONEERS:

The tournament will begin Tuesday with 36 holes before concluding with the final 18 holes Wednesday.
