STANFORD, Calif. (Apr. 2) Kim Bodick and Dominique Cook each scored five goals and Mariana Spry notched the only tallies in overtime as the University of Denver women's lacrosse team posted a 16-14 win over host Stanford on Saturday. The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Pioneers (2-6).
The two teams traded goals in a first half that featured five lead changes with Stanford taking a 7-6 lead at the game's midway point on two markers by Katharine Barnes in the last 3:13 of the frame. Bodick sparked the Pioneers early with three of the team's first six goals.
The see-saw battle continued in the second half with four more lead changes. Denver seemed to take control when Cook gave her team a 14-12 lead on a goal with 4:43 left in regulation but Stanford's Caroline Osterwise and Hedy Born sent the game into the extra session with tallies at 2:18 and 1:27 of the second half, respectively. Spry then iced the game with her second and third goals of the day in overtime.
