The University of Denver men's tennis team continued its strong showing in the 2001-02 fall season as the Pioneers fared well against Colorado School of Mines, Friday (Oct. 5).
With no team scoring during the fall slate, the Pioneers individually were impressive against Mines. At singles, all six Denver players earned victories, led by senior Magnus Ramfelt (Bromma, Sweden) on the No. 1 court. Ramfelt improved his singles mark to a perfect 5-0 with a 6-1, 6-2, victory over Mines' Kevin Yu.
At doubles, two of the three Pioneer pairs posted victories. Seniors Jay Patel (Ahmedabad, India) and Trevor Young (Pueblo, Colo.) defeated Yu and Ivan Molinar, 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. On the third court, senior Lachlan Menzies (Perth, Australia) and sophomore Bob Matteson (Chicago, Ill.) topped their opponents, 8-6.
Denver will take two weeks off before heading to Las Vegas, Nev., for the ITA Regionals, Oct. 24-28 to close out the 2001-02 fall schedule. Denver's spring slate in scheduled to open Feb. 1, 2002.
