The University of Denver men's tennis team defeated Missouri-Kansas City, 7-0, Thursday (Feb. 28). The match, originally scheduled to be played at Denver's Stapelton Tennis Pavilion, was moved to the inside courts at the Air Force Academy due to inclement weather.

Denver opened the match on the doubles courts and won two of the three matches to earn the point. The Pioneers' tandem of seniors Magnus Ramfelt and Jay Patel, paired for the first time this season, defeated UMKC's Yasuhito Minoda and Darren Heck, 8-4, on the second court, while sophomore Hans Peter Gaber and freshman Jason Tan topped Brad Scott and Grant Priddy, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles.

On the singles courts, the Pioneers won all six matches in strsight sets to sweep the Kangaroos. Ramfelt won his match on the first court against UMKC's James Nelson, 6-2, 6-4. Sophomore Urban Ljubic defeated Alonso Thomas, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Senior Jay Patel, who missed last weekend's three matches at Las Cruces, N.M., returned to the lineup to win his 13th match of the season, topping Minoda, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. On the fourth court, Gaber defeated Heck, 6-2, 6-0, while Denver's Tan beat Scott, 6-4, 6-0. On the final court, sophomore Bob Matteson earned a victory over Kangaroo's Tyler Burns, 6-2, 6-1, completing Denver's sweep.

Denver (3-5) will return to action Friday (Mar. 1) with another home match against Montana State. Due to inclement weather, however, this match will again be moved indoors and will be played at Meadow Creek Racquet Club in Lakewood. First serve is slated for 8:30 p.m.
