The University of Denver posted its fifth 7-0 victory of the year, sweeping the University of California, Riverside, Sunday. The Pioneers improved to 5-8 on the season.
The Pioneers took all three doubles matches to earn the first point. Senior Magnus Ramfelt and sophomore Urban Ljubic started things off for Denver, topping the Highlanders' Walt Hearn and Brent Davis, 8-6, on the first court. At No. 2 doubles, seniors Jay Patel and Trevor Young defeated Kevin Singleton and Dan Stevens, 9-7. Denver completed the sweep on court No. 3 as senior Lachlan Menzies and sophomore Hans Peter Gaber beat Derek Betyar and Toru Latto, 8-4.
At singles, Denver continued to roll, winning all six matches in straight sets. At No. 1, Ramfelt won his second-straight match to improve to 15-8, topping Davis, 6-2, 6-4. Patel snapped a two-match losing streak and improved his team-best record to 15-5 with a straight-set win over Betyar.
Denver (5-8) will remain in sunny California and will face Loyola Marymount on Monday (Mar. 18) and Dartmouth on Tuesday (Mar. 19).
