The University of Denver women's tennis team completed its spring break trip to south Florida with a 5-2 loss to Boston College. The Pioneers drop to 6-6 on the season.
After freshmen Yanick Dullens and Barbara Kourim defeated BC's Ruda Veitas and Nida Wasseem, 8-4, on the first doubles court, Denver failed to win either of the matches on the second and third courts, losing the doubles point. At No. 3, sophomore Beth Messaros and freshman Elizabeth Matthews nearly secured the points, but dropped a close match to Anisha Fernando and Jessica Engel, 9-8.
At singles, the Pioneers earned victories at No. 1 and No. 3 and forced three sets on courts No. 2, 5 and 6, but were unable to gain enough points to pick up a win. Kourim, playing at No. 1 singles, topped Allison Ashley, 6-0 and 6-1, while Ginsburg defeated Morgan Landis, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, to give Denver its only two victories.
The Pioneers (6-6) will return home to host two matches this weekend, taking on Northern Arizona next Friday (Mar. 29) at 1 p.m., while hosting Montana Sunday (Mar. 31) at 9 a.m. Both matches are scheduled to take place at Denver's Stapleton Tennis Pavilion.
