Pioneers Upset No. 47 Kansas

The University of Denver upset No. 47 Kansas in women's tennis action this afternoon at Lobo Tennis Club in Albuquerque, N.M. The Pioneers won two of three doubles matches and three singles matches to claim the big victory.

"It was a very exciting win," head coach Dana Young said. "Beating a ranked team like Kansas is great for our program. We've really worked hard so far this season, and this win is a great step for our program."

Yanick Dullens (So., Susteren, Netherlands) continued her strong play for Denver. Dullens won a tight match at No. 1 singles against Courtney Steinbock (0-6, 6-3, 7-5) and teamed with Barb Kourim (So., Dallas, Texas) at No. 1 singles to defeat Courtney and Kristen Steinbock (8-3).

Jenny Trettin (Fr., Berlin, Germany) and Suzana Maksovic (Fr., Helsingborg, Sweden) defeated Paige Brown and Emily Haylock (8-3) at No. 2 singles to earn the doubles point for the Pioneers.

Maksovic and Maru Altamirano (Sr., Chula Vista, Calif.) won their singles matches at No. 2 and No. 6, respectively, to earn the other team points for Denver.

The Pioneers return to action next Friday, Feb. 28 against Furman in Colorado Springs, Colo.
