The University of Denver women's tennis team lost to Minnesota, 5-2, this afternoon at Monaco Athletic Club in Denver. Minnesota won all three doubles matches and four singles matches to defeat the Pioneers, who fall to 3-3 overall.
Yanick Dullens (So., Susteren, Netherlands) and Suzanna Maksovic (Fr., Helsingborg, Sweden) won their respective matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to lead Denver. Dullens defeated Angela Buergis (7-5, 3-6 and 10-8) and Maksovic knocked off Michaela Havelkova (6-4, 3-6 and 10-4). Despite the loss, Denver head coach Dana Young was pleased with her team's effort.
"We played really well today," Young said. "We certainly took a step in the right direction with our wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles."
The Pioneers (3-3) will return to action on Feb. 21-22 with matches against New Mexico and Kansas in Albuqurque, N.M.
