STANFORD, Calif. - Despite a pair of goals from Junior co-captain Patience Baldwin (Baltimore, Md.) and first year Jovan Drotar (Herndon, Va.), the University of Denver women's lacrosse team was defeated 15-9 by Stanford University in Mountain Pacific League (MPLL) action Sunday afternoon at Maloney Field.

"It was and up and down game for us," said Denver coach Abby Burbank. "We would get control of the ball, do some good things and then turn it over."

Baldwin's first goal made the score 12-5 Cardinal with 16:00 left in the contest, yet the Cardinal (4-0, 2-0) would scored four more goals to hold off the Pioneers. Stanford took a 7-3 lead at the break, and out-scored the Pioneers 8-6 in the second half as well.

Julie Calzonetti and Cassie Harvey each registered a hat trick for the Cardinal. Five different Cardinal had a least two goals.

Senior co-captain Mariana Spry (Nashua, N.H.), sophomores Courtnay Gerl (Palm Beach, Fla.) and Tanya Fuchs (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and first year Steph Greenlees (Lake Forest, Ill.) each posted a goal for the second straight contest for the Pioneers (1-1, 1-1).

The Pioneers will conclude their California swing on Monday, March 3, when Denver faces Duquense in Berkeley, Calif at 1 p.m. MT.
