Denver Rips Cal-Riverside, 6-1

March 24, 2003

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The University of Denver lost the doubles point, but stormed back with six wins in singles to defeat Cal-Riverside, 6-1, in men's tennis action on March 23. Denver improves its record to 11-6 overall with the win.

"It was a little tough adjusting to the outdoor conditions and altitude," head coach Geoff Young said. "I am happy with the win considering the snow storm last week in Denver limited our practice schedule."

Hans Peter Gaber (Anger, Austria) won his 13th straight match with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Derek Betyar at No. 3 singles. Also winning singles matches were Urban Ljubic (Jr., Ljubljana, Slovenia) at No. 1, Nejc Smole (Fr., Ljubljana, Slovenia) at No. 2, Viktor Zetterholm (Fr., Stockholm, Sweden) at No. 4, Jason Tan (So., Monnickendam, Netherlands) at No. 5 and Colin Day (Fr., Denver, Colo.) at No. 6.

The Pioneers (11-6 overall) will host Arkansas-Little Rock in a Sun Belt Conference match on April 3. Match time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
