BOULDER, Colo. -
The No. 75 University of Denver women's tennis team upset 44th-ranked Colorado, 4-3, in Boulder this evening. The win was Denver's first in school history against the Buffs. With the win, Denver opens its season with two consecutive wins.
"This is a tremendous win for our program," head coach Dana Young said. "I am so proud our team. This is exactly how we wanted to start the season."
The Pioneers won the doubles point and three singles matches to record the upset win. Yanick Dullens (Jr., Susteren, Netherlands), Barbara Kourim (Jr., Dallas, Texas) and Rachel Sackmaster (Fr., Alpharetta, Ga.) won close singles matches to push Denver to the win. Sackmaster's match was the clincher for Denver. She defeated CU's Jenny Hanson, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 5 singles.
