March 6, 2004

The University of Denver scored a 4-3 win over 53rd-ranked SMU this afternoon in Dallas, Texas. No. 66 Denver won the doubles point and three singles matches to get the road victory. Junior Barb Kourim (Dallas, Texas) returned home, playing in front of friends and family, and clinched the match with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over SMU's Nadia Vaughan at No. 4 singles. With the win, Denver improves to 10-1 overall. The team has won seven consecutive matches.

"It was a great win for us," head coach Dana Young said. "Especially for Barb Kourim. She had a lot of friends and family at the match and she clinched the win after being down 4-3 in the final set."

Yanick Dullens (Susteren, Netherlands) and Suzana Maksovic (Helsingborg, Sweden) won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, and Jenny Trettin (Berlin, Germany) and Kourim won 8-6 at No. 2 to secure the doubles point.

Also adding singles wins for Denver were Trettin at No. 3 and Rachel Sackmaster (Alpharetta, Ga.) Trettin won 6-0, 7-5, while Sackmaster won 6-4, 6-3.

"I am really proud of the way our team has practiced and competed this season," Young said. "It was the difference in today's match."
