National Champion Pioneers to Receive Senate Resolution

April 15, 2004

The 2004 National Champion University of Denver Pioneer hockey team will receive a special senate resolution at the state capital building in downtown Denver tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. The Pioneers will be guests of Colorado state senator John Evans of district 30 and the 64th general assembly of the state of Colorado.

Evans, the assistant majority leader of the senate, sponsored legislation for a resolution honoring the Pioneers and their first NCAA hockey title since 1969. The Pioneers will be ushered into the Senate and House of Representatives on the second floor of the State Capitol Building beginning at 10:30 a.m. The resolution recognizing the University of Denver's 2004 National Championship will be read on the floor.

Denver defeated Maine, 1-0, in the national championship game on April 10 at FleetCenter in Boston, Mass. The 1-0 shutout was the first in NCAA title game history and just the third shutout overall in championship games.

The Pioneers will continue their championship celebration Saturday, April 17 at the Colorado Avalanche's playoff series against Dallas at 1 p.m. The University of Denver Championship team will be honored during the first intermission of game five.
