No. 2 seed Denver got to show off one of the strongest doubles tandems in the league in taking a 4-0 win over No. 7 North Texas Friday afternoon in quarterfinal action of the 2004 Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Championships at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The Pioneers (18-1) will meet the Arkansas-Little Rook, which defeated Middle Tennessee 4-3 late Friday, at 8 a.m. MT. UNT (13-10), which was playing its second match of the day, will face the Middle Tennessee in a 7 a.m. MT consolation match Saturday.
Denver used the No. 42-ranked doubles team of Yanick Dullens (Susteren, Netherlands) and Suzana Maksovic (Helsingborg, Sweden) to grab the early momentum. The duo cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while the Pioneer No. 2 team of Jenny Trettin (Berlin, Germany) and Barbara Kourim (Dallas, Texas) won 8-0 at the No. 2 slot. Dullens and Maksovic improved to 17-2, while Trettin and Kourim stay unbeaten at 19-0.
The Pioneers took all three singles wins in straight sets, including Trettin's 6-2, 6-3 clinching-win at the No. 3 slot.
Denver extended its league-best win streak to 15 matches.
