Other than the fact they are the two most recent University of Denver hockey teams to reach the Frozen Four, the Pioneers of 1986 and 2004 have little in common.
In 1986, the Pioneers featured a burly defense and high-scoring offense that remains prominent in the DU record book. This season's team, which meets Minnesota-Duluth in the national semifinals Thursday in Boston (10 a.m. MDT, ESPN2) features speed and nimble defensemen who are dangerous scoring threats in the offensive zone.
