EVANSTON, Ill. - The University of Denver women's lacrosse team only managed four goals in a 16-4 loss to No. 7 Northwestern on Sunday afternoon at the Leonard B. Thomas Athletic Complex. The Pioneers ends the regular season 7-10, while the Wildcats improve to 14-1.

Northwestern jumped out to an 11-0 lead as Denver tallied one shot during the run of play and one free-position attempt.

Denver finally got on the board just 37 seconds into the second half, when freshman defender Alyssia Passavia (Stony Brook, N.Y.) finished a feed from senior midfielder Patience Baldwin (Baltimore, Md.). Northwestern answered back during the next 10 minutes with goals from Angela McMahon, before Passavia scored another goal to make the score 13-2.

Northwestern, which substituted liberally starting late in the first half, had one final run with three goals in a four minute span by Aly Josephs, Annie Elliott and Minnie Doherty. The Pioneers finished the scoring when senior midfielder Alexis Shipman (Englewood, Colo.) and sophomore midfielder Steph Greenlees (Lake Forest, Ill.) managed to beat backup goalkeeper Meredith Philipp.

Junior goalkeeper Steph Schneider (Leesburg, Va.) recorded 15 saves in the loss. Northwestern's duo registered five as the 'Cats outshot Denver 34-7.

Postseason action begins Thursday, May 6, when the Pioneers host the MPSF Championship. Denver faces California in the opening match for a chance at the title on Saturday, May 8.
