No. 44 Denver Defeats No. 54 Tulsa, 4-3

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The University of Denver women's tennis team improved its record to 4-1 with a 4-3 win over No. 54 Tulsa late Saturday night. The Pioneers won three singles matches and claimed the doubles' point for the narrow victory. Denver has won four consecutive matches.

"This was a very tough regional opponent that we played tonight," head coach Dana Young said. "We started the match off with great intensity and played tremendous doubles, which has been key for us in the last several matches. I'm very impressed with the way the we have stepped up our doubles play."

Posting singles wins for Denver were Barbara Kourina (Dallas, Texas), Marisa Mechem (Fredericksburg, Texas) and Rachel Sackmaster (Alpharetta, GA), who clinched the win for the Pioneers.

Denver collected the doubles point by posting all three doubles wins. Dullens and Maksovic (Helsingborg, Sweden) won at No. 1, Jenny Trettin (Berlin, Germany) and Kourim won at No. 2, and Mechem and Sackmaster won at No. 3.

Women's tennis action continues when the Pioneers travel to Minneapolis, Minn., to play Minnesota and Cinnicinati on February 18-19.
