The No. 63 University of Denver women's tennis team defeated No. 31 New Mexico, 5-2, this evening at the Monaco Athletic Club in Denver. The Pioneers improve to 8-2.
Yanick Dullens (Susteren, Netherlands) and Suzana Maksovic (Helsingborg, Sweden) led the way at No. 1 doubles and defeated the No. 5 ranked duo of Kovacek and Gersic, 8-5. Jenny Trettin (Berlin, Germany) and Barbara Kourim (Dallas, Texas )followed in suit and defeated Heidbrink and Robertson, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point.
The Pioneers won four of six singles matches to seal the victory highlighted by Dullens defeat of No. 35 Maja Kovacek, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 at No. 1 singles. Also recording wins were Kourim at No. 3 singles, Rachel Sackmaster (Alpharetta, Ga.) at No. 5 singles and Marisa Mechem (Fredericksburg, Texas) at No. 6 singles.
"I am so proud at how well we fought and competed tonight," said head coach Dana Young. "We had a great week of preparation coming into this match and were determined to get the win."
Denver will return to action on March 16 at UC Irvine.
