Denver defeats New Mexico State 7-0

April 8, 2005

DENVER - The University of Denver men's tennis team won its first match in 10 matches and defeated Sun Belt Conference foe New Mexico State 7-0 tonight at Stapleton Tennis Pavilion. The match was delayed because of a rain storm in Denver, but play resumed and the Pioneers won all six singles matches and clinched the doubles point to improve to 6-10.

"It was a good match despite the rain and New Mexico State being shorthanded," said head coach Geoff Young. "Everyone was playing hard in these conditions and I am proud of the guys for sticking through it and winning the match. "

The Pioneers swept the singles matches with Niklas Person (Stockholm, Sweden) Viktor Zetterholm (Stockholm, Sweden), Jason Tan (Amsterdam, Netherlands), Steve Flaks (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Kalle Rosen (Helsingborg, Sweden) and Ryan Slemons (Woodinville, Wash.) all winning their respective singles matches.

On the doubles side, Denver clinched the doubles points with wins from the duo of Adam Holmstrom (Eskilstuna, Sweden) and Persson defeating Danilo Zivanovic and Luis Avila at No. 1 doubles, and Zetterholm and Rosen defeating Williams and Halligan at No. 2.
