PROVO, Utah - The No. 58 University of Denver women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to No. 30 BYU in its first dual match of the spring season late Friday night in Provo. The Cougars won all three matches to capture the doubles point and four singles matches to defeat the Pioneers 5-2.
DU sophomore Kyla Iwinski (Marietta, Ga.) and senior Rachel Sackmaster (Alpharetta, Ga.) claimed DU's lone singles points. Iwinski defeated BYU's Chie Hayasaka 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles, while Sackmaster bested Sofia Holden 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
The Pioneers play Washington on Sunday, Jan. 21 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
