MADISON, Wis. University of Denver senior goaltender Peter Mannino (Farmington Hills, Mich.) has been named Red Baron WCHA co-Defensive Player of the Week for Nov. 20-26, announced today by the WCHA. Mannino shares his third WCHA defensive honor of the season with Minnesota Duluth goaltender Alex Stalock.
Mannino led the Pioneers to a two-game series sweep of Minnesota State last weekend. He stopped 56 of 57 shots on goal for a .982 saves percentage in the series and posted five shutout periods as the Pioneers defeated the Mavericks 2-1 and 7-0 on Nov. 16-17 at Magness Arena. The shutout last Saturday evening was his second of the season and 11th of his collegiate career. Mannino, who also had two assists last Saturday, including one on the game-winning goal, stands 8-2-0 on the season, is second among league goaltenders with a 1.31 goals-against average, and is first in saves percentage at .949. He has allowed one goal or less in DU’s eight wins.
Stalock helped the host Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs to a three-point weekend against WCHA-rival Michigan Tech, with a 1-1 overtime tie on Nov. 16 and a 4-1 triumph on Nov. 17. Stalock stopped 65 of 67 opponent shots on goal in the series for a .970 saves percentage.
The No. 3 Pioneers play No. 4 Colorado College in a home-and-home series on Nov. 23-24. Friday’s contest in Colorado Springs will begin at 7:37 p.m., while Saturday’s tilt at Magness Arena is scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
