Pioneers Sweep Two Matches in Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The No. 47 University of Denver women's tennis team defeated Indiana State and No. 58 Iowa in action this weekend in Iowa City, Iowa. The Pioneers defeated Indiana State 6-1 and Iowa 4-3 to improve to 4-1 overall this season.

"We had a solid weekend of tennis," DU head coach Amy Jensen said. "We played a solid all-around match against Indiana State on Saturday and followed that win with a big win against the Hawkeyes. Rachel Sackmaster showed confidence and poise under pressure to win the Iowa match at No. 5 singles."

DU won the doubles point and five singles matches to easily defeat the Sycamores 6-1. The Pioneers captured their fourth consecutive win by ousting host Iowa 4-3. The Hawkeyes captured the doubles point before the Pioneers roared back with four singles wins, including the decisive three-set win by Rachel Sackmaster (Alpharetta, Ga.) at No. 5 singles. Sackmaster defeated Iowa's Kayla Berry 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to clinch the win.

DU returns to action on Friday, Feb. 9 against Oregon. The match is set for 5 p.m. MT at Pinehurst Country Club.
