BLACKSBURG, Va. - Sophomore Karen Morton (Adelaide, Australia) scored six goals and senior Kristie Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) had four goals and three assists, as the Pioneers beat Virginia Tech on Friday, 19-7.
DU (2-1) started the game on a 5-0 run over the first 17:22 with goals by freshman Lexi Sanders (Greenwood Village, Colo.), sophomore Steph Coyne (Baltimore, Md.), a pair by Leggio and another by freshman Ali Flury (Arnold, Md.).
The Hokies (1-3) answered with three straight, but Denver responded with 13 unanswered goals, and Morton capped it with one more goal with just under four minutes to play.
In the contest, Flury had four goals, while Coyne recorded two goals and a pair of assists.
Junior goalkeeper Becky Childs (Phoenix, Md.) had six saves while playing the entire contest.
The Pioneers continue their Virginia road trip when they visit Longwood in Farmville, Va., on Sunday, Mar. 4 at 11 a.m. MT.
