COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior midfielder Kristie Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) tied her own school record with five assists and added a pair of goals on Wednesday, as the No. 15 DU women's lacrosse team rallied late to beat Cornell, 17-13.
The game was tied with less than 10 minutes remaining, but Denver (8-1) closed out the contest with a 4-0 run.
The Pioneers opened the game with a goal by sophomore Steph Coyne (Baltimore, Md.) and a pair from freshman Lexi Sanders (Greenwood Village, Colo.), but Cornell (2-4) responded with a 9-1 run.
Denver fought back, going up by two after a 9-2 run of their own, which included three goals from freshman Ali Flury (Arnold, Md.) and two from Coyne.
The Big Red tied the game on two goals within a minute of each other, but Flury fed Leggio for the game-winner at 9:46, and the Pioneers iced it with three more goals.
Leggio's five assists tied a single-game record she set at Stony Brook on Apr. 9, 2006, and she collected 15 points between Monday and Wednesday's games to give her 47 on the season.
The Pioneers return home to face Harvard (2-3) on Tues., Mar. 27 at 4 p.m. MT at Barton Stadium.
