DU Women's Tennis Sweeps Wyoming, 7-0

DENVER - The University of Denver ended a two-match losing streak with an impressive 7-0 win over Wyoming in women's tennis action this afternoon at Colorado Athletic Club - Monaco this afternoon. DU swept all nine matches - three wins in doubles and six wins in singles - for the first time this season.

With the win, the No. 47 Pioneers end their two-match losing streak and improve to 11-8. Wyoming falls to 6-12.

"It's great to see how much our women have learned and improved," DU head coach Amy Jensen said. "This was probably our most dominating and aggressive tennis of the season. I loved every minute of our first 'sweep' of the season!"

DU started the match by claiming three doubles wins for the doubles point. Annette Aksdal (Oslo, Norway) and Ute Schnoy (Altenstadt, Germany) defeated Andrea House and Karolina Rowinski 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Julia Bauregger (Kaernten, Austria) and Rachel Sackmaster (Alpharetta, Ga.) edged Michelle Brown and Corina Lazar 8-7(4) at No. 2 doubles, while Marisa Mechem (Fredericksburg, Texas) and Lorinda Boothman (Naples, Fla.) beat Jamie Nelson and Sarah Summerfield 8-6.

Aksdal, Schnoy, Bauregger, Kyla Iwinski, Sackmaster and Kaja Smole (Ljubljana, Slovenia) completed the sweep with singles wins. Aksdal needed three sets to beat Summerfield at No. 1 and No. 125 Schnoy improved to 11-6 with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Rowinski at No. 2. Bauregger won her 11th match with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Lazar at No. 3. Kyla Iwinski (Marietta, Ga.) beat Brown 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 and Sackmaster beat House 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5. Smole was a 6-0, 6-4 winner over Nelson at No. 6.

The Pioneers return to action tomorrow morning against Montana. The match is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Colorado Athletic Club - Monaco.
