DU Women Sweep Wyoming

USAFA, Colo. The No. 45 Pioneers defeated Wyoming 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

 

Denver won all three doubles matches.  Mallory Voelker (Dousman, Wis.) and Julia Bauregger (Kaernten, Austria) cruised past Rebecca Berger and Corina Lazar 8-0 at No. 1. Ute Schnoy (Altenstadt, Germany) and Bhavani Tirumurti (Jakarta, Indonesia) defeated Michelle Brown and Carly Van Hollen 8-3 at No. 2. Annette Aksdal (Oslo, Norway) and Kaja Smole (Ljubljana, Slovenia) completed the sweep with an 8-1 win over Brittan DeFelice and Sarah Summerfield at No. 3.

 

DU swept singles play to complete the 7-0 victory. Voelker defeated Berger 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 and Ute Schnoy beat Lazar 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. Aksdal trounced Van Hollen 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and Bauregger defeated Brown 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4. Tirumurti beat Nelson 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 and Smole picked up her first singles win of the dual season over Carolina Chaix 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.

 

With the victory, the Pioneers remain undefeated at 4-0. The Cowboys fall to 1-2.

 

Denver will return to action Sunday, February 3 against No. 50 Washington State. The match is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
