USAFA, Colo. The No. 24 Denver women’s tennis team continued its undefeated venture yesterday, shutting out North Texas 7-0 at the Air Force Academy.
With the victory, the Pioneers move to 11-0. The Mean Green falls to 5-6.
The Pioneers picked up two doubles wins in the contest. Julia Bauregger (Klugenfurt, Austria) and Mallory Voelker (Dousman, Wis.) picked up the first victory for Denver and was followed by Kyla Iwinski (Marietta, Ga.) and Ute Schnoy (Altenstadt, Germany) to clinch the doubles point. Schnoy joined the Denver lineup today for the first time since February 22 when she suffered a sprained ankle.
Denver swept all six singles matches to finalize the score at 7-0. Annette Aksdal (Oslo, Norway), Bauregger, Schnoy, Voelker, Bhavani Tirumurti (Jakarta, Indonesia), and Iwinski all recorded singles wins in the victory.
“Even though we may not have played our best tennis today, we all found a way to get the job done, Bauregger said. “These matches are more important than those days when you feel great and win, as it forces you to play smart tennis, dig deep, and be incredibly tough. Vamos Pios!”
Voelker, Bauregger, and Aksdal all remain undefeated in singles at 11-0.
