No. 39 Denver Posts Two 5-2 Wins

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - No. 39 Denver improved to 5-3 overall with a pair of 5-2 wins at Penn State University this weekend. DU defeated No. 34 VCU, 5-2, on Saturday and Penn State, 5-2, today.

 

"We had a good weekend of tennis," DU head coach Amy Jensen said. "We really started off strong in doubles against VCU and finished the weekend with good win against a Big 10 opponent. I thought our fitness really stood out. Vamos Pios!"

 

Mallory Voelker (Dousman, Wis.) and Ute Schnoy (Altenstadt, Germany) each improved to 8-0 overall in singles with two wins each. Also going 2-0 for the Pioneers this weekend was Annette Aksdal (Oslo, Norway).

 

DU dominated in doubles over the weekend by going unbeaten in all six matches. Leading the way were Aksdal and Bhavani Tirumurti (Jakarta, Indonesia) with a 2-0 mark. Also going unbeaten in doubles were Kyla Iwinski (Marietta, Ga.), Julia Bauregger (Klagenfurt, Austria), Schnoy and Voelker.

 

The Pioneers take their four-match winning streak to Colorado State on Feb. 22.
