Pioneers Post Second Consecutive 7-0 Win

USAFA, Colo. - No. 40 Denver posted its second consecutive sweep with a 7-0 win on Sunday afternoon against Texas Tech at the Air Force Academy. DU improved to 3-3 overall, while Texas Tech dropped to 2-2.

 

DU followed up its 7-0 win against Air Force on Feb. 6 with the 7-0 blanking of Texas Tech.

 

"We came out strong after tough back to back losses last weekend," junior Ute Schnoy said. "We showed up on every court and showed what this team is about. Getting two sweeps this weekend was a big boost for us. Vamos Pios."

 

DU jumped to a 1-0 lead with sweep in doubles. Mallory Voelker (Dousman, Wis.) and Julia Bauregger (Klagenfurt, Austria) won 8-7 at No. 1, Kyla Iwinski (Marietta, Ga.) and Ute Schnoy (Altenstadt, Germany) won 8-0 at No. 2, and Annette Aksdal (Oslo, Norway) and Bhavani Tirumurti (Jakarta, Indonesia) won 8-2 at No. 3.

 

Voelker, Aksdal, Schnoy, Bauregger, Iwinski and Tirumurti all posted wins in singles.

 

DU returns to action against No. 35 VCU in University Park, Pa., on Sat., Feb. 14.
