The No. 30 Denver women's tennis team blanked Sun Belt Conference foe Middle Tennessee, 7-0, in action on Saturday at Pinehurst Country Club.
The match was moved indoors after the snowstorm in Denver. DU improves to 11-4 with the win, while Middle falls to 8-10. The Pioneers swept all three matches for the doubles point and were hardly threatened in their six singles wins.
"We wanted to make a strong statement in our only conference match in the regular season," DU junior Julia Bauregger (Klagenfurt, Austria) said. "We showed that even towards the end we are still improving, and we are so ready for our post-season competition. GO PIOS!"
Mallory Voelker (Dousman, Wis.) and Kyla Iwinski (Marietta, Ga.) won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. Bauregger and Ute Schnoy (Altenstadt, Germany) won 8-5 at No. 2, while Annette Aksdal (Oslo, Norway) and Bhavani Tirumurti (Jakarta, Indonesia) won 8-2 at No. 3.
Voelker, Aksdal, Schnoy, Bauregger, Iwinski and Tirumurti all won their singles matches. DU has now won three consecutive matches.
The Pioneers return to action today against Montana. Match time is set for 12 p.m. at Pinehurst Country Club.
