DU Women's Tennis Downs Utah 5-2

DENVER The No. 34 University of Denver women’s tennis team (13-4) defeated visiting No. 57 Utah (9-9) 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon at the Stapleton Tennis Pavilion.

 

The Pioneers swept all three doubles matches, while taking four of the six singles matches.

 

“We’ve been putting in a lot of work and it’s great to see everyone still improving this late in the season,” said senior Kyla Iwinski (Marietta, Ga.). “We’ve got our best tennis ahead of us and we can’t wait till Sun Belt Conference Championships and NCAA’s.”

 

Senior Mallory Voelker (Dousman, Wis.) defeated Anastasia Putilina 6-1, 6-3 and juniors Ute Schnoy (Altenstadt, Germany) and Julia Bauregger (Klagenfurt, Austria) both pulled out wins over their opponents. Sophomore Bhavani Tirumurti (Jakarta, Indonesia) grabbed the fourth singles win with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win over Andrew Maughan.

 

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, April 11 as they host Northern Colorado at 11 a.m. at the Stapleton Tennis Pavilion.
