Denver Falls 18-7 to No. 4 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of Denver women's lacrosse senior midfielder Ali Flury (Arnold, Md.) scored two goals and senior midfielder Lexi Sanders (Greenwood Village, Colo.) added a goal and two assists, but the Pioneers fell to No. 4 North Carolina on Sunday afternoon.

The Tar Heels (1-0) scored two quick goals before junior midfielder Tulley Stapp (Denver, Colo.) put the Pioneers (1-2, 1-0 MPSF) on the board on a free position goal 10 minutes into the game.

Flury scored twice in the midst of a 6-2 UNC run, and. sophomore midfielder Lauren Ciccomascolo (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) found the back of the net before a trio of Tar Heels scored to put North Carolina on top 11-4 at the half.

The Tar Heels opened the second half with five-straight goals in a five-minute span before Sanders fed sophomore midfielder Kaiti Delaney (Denver, Colo.) for a goal with 17:44 remaining.

Freshman midfielder Alex Befus (Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored her second-career goal, and Sanders gave the Pioneers the game's final tally with 4:35 remaining.

UNC's Kristen Taylor led all scorers with four goals, and Megan Bosica had a hat trick and an assist.

The Pioneers return home this week for the first of six-straight games at Peter Barton Stadium with DU's home opener against Stony Brook on Thursday at 4 p.m. MT.
