DENVER - No. 38 Boise State claimed a 5-2 decision over Denver in season-opening women's tennis action late Friday at Pinehurst Country Club.
Freshman Elena Najera (San Diego, Calif.) and sophomore Emma Isberg (Tyreso, Sweden) posted singles wins for the Pioneers.
Najera beat Sonia Klamcynzka 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Isberg beat Stephanie Jasper 7-5, 7-5 at No. 3 singles.
"We came out today and fought very hard," DU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "We had several freshmen in the lineup and nerves were a big factor in the doubles, but we stayed tough and had chances to win at all three matches. In singles, we played great at times, but we were too up and down and that was the difference in the match."
The Pioneers return to action at Air Force on Sunday, Jan. 23. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. MT.
