DU Downs Tulane, 5-2

DENVER - The University of Denver women's tennis team swept three doubles matches en route to a 5-2 win over Tulane this afternoon at Pinehurst Country Club.

Denver evens its record at 3-3 with the win, while Tulane falls to 2-4.

"We played a great doubles point today by winning all of the matches," DU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "We had a ton of intensity and were very competitive at all spots today in singles and doubles. It was nice to get a win against a very solid opponent today. We will continue to work hard as we go on the road against some very tough competition."

DU claimed the doubles point as Natalie Dunn (Fort Collins, Colo.) and Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.) beat Hila Elster and Elizabeth Hamlin 8-3 at No. 3 singles and Emma Isberg (Tyreso, Sweden) and Elena Najera (San Diego, Calif.) defeated Lindsay Dvorak and Emma Helisten 8-3 at No. 2 singles. Sophia Bergner (Schechen, Germany) and Steffi Rath (Hochst, Austria) added an 8-4 win Emma Levy and Mariam Kurdadze.

Isberg made it 2-0 Denver with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Hamlin at No. 3 singles.

After a Tulane tied the score at 2-2 with wins at No. 4 and No. 1 singles, Najera beat Levy in three sets at No. 2 singles to give DU a 3-2 lead.

Schnell clinched the win for DU with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Elster at No. 5 singles and Rath made the final score with a win at No. 6 singles.

Denver travels to UNLV on Feb. 19.
