No. 48 Utah Beats DU, 6-1

DENVER - The University of Denver women's tennis tam battled hard, but fell short in a 6-1 loss to No. 48 Utah this afternoon at Pinehurst Country Club. DU falls to 2-2 with the loss, while Utah improves to 3-3.

"We battled against a very tough and experienced Utah team," DU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "Our team had many chances to close out the doubles point. We then came out and were up in some of the singles matches as well. I am proud of Sophia for a break through win over a nationally-ranked player and the top player in our region."

Sophia Bergner (Schechen, Germany) recorded DU's lone point with an impressive 7-6(8), 6-4 win over No. 82 Anastasia Putilina at No. 1 singles.

Natalie Dunn (Fort Collins, Colo.) and Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.) beat Utah's Sarah Pham and Lexi Provancha, 8-6, at No. 3 doubles.

DU returns to action on Friday, Feb. 11 vs. BYU.
