San Diego Beats Denver, 7-0

SAN DIEGO - The Denver women's tennis lost 7-0 to No. 25 San Diego at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club on Saturday. San Diego improved to 9-4 with the win, while the Pioneers fell to 4-10.

Sophia Bergner (Schechen, Germany) battled in a three-set loss to No. 74 Stephanie Hoffpauier at No. 1 singles and Steffi Rath (Hochst, Austria) was ousted in a super tie-breaker at No. 6 singles.

Despite the loss, DU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman was encouraged by DU's effort.

"We competed hard against a very highly ranked USD team," Wurtzman said. "It was a great experience for our young team to play against such a highly-ranked team. We look forward to using the experience that we gained from the matches in San Diego in our two conference matches next week."

DU plays at Middle Tennessee on Friday, March 25.
