LUBBOCK, Texas - The Denver women's tennis team was edged 4-3 by Texas Tech this afternoon at McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock. DU falls to 4-8 with the loss, while Texas Tech improves to 7-3.
Texas Tech swept the doubles point and won three singles matches. DU battled back from a 3-0 deficit, but fell short in the 4-3 loss.
Texas Tech jumped to a 3-0 lead before Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.) beat Haley Fournier at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-2.
Elizabeth Ullathorne clinched the match for Texas Tech with her No. 1 singles win over Sophia Bergner (Schechen, Germany) 6-3, 7-6(4).
Steffi Rath (Hochst, Austria) beat Sandra Dynka 6-4, 7-5 at No. 6 singles and Elena Najera (San Diego, Calif.) beat Caroline Starck in three sets at No. 2 singles to close the scoring.
Denver returns to action at San Diego State on March 17.
