Women's Tennis Remains Unbeaten

DENVER - The Uninversity of Denver remained unbeaten at 5-0 with a competitive 6-1 win over Arkansas State late Saturday night at Colorado Athletic Club - Monaco.

Denver cruised to the doubles point with a clean sweep of the three matches, but were challenged in its five singles wins.

"Tonight was a very hard fought match," DU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "Arkansas State came out after the doubles point and fought until the end. We are happy that we were able to come away with the win and beat a conference team."

Sophomores Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.) and Natalie Dunn (Fort Collins, Colo.) highlighted doubles action and moved to 5-0 with an 8-4 win at No. 3.

Juniors Sophia Bergner (Schechen, Germany) and Steffi Rath (Hochst, Austria) each stayed unbeaten in singles at 5-0. Bergner beat Mahuiyang Rong 4-6, 7-6(4), 10-3 at No. 1, while Rath beat Ioana Teu 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 5.

Junior Emma isberg (Tyreso, Sweden) moved to 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Biljana Miloshevska at No. 4 and Schnell beat Janie Nowland 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3. Dunn beat Howey in three sets at No. 6.

Denver plays at BYU on Friday, Feb. 10.
