Lawrence, Kan. - The University of Denver women's tennis team fell to Kansas Friday, 4-3.
The Pioneers battled Kansas in all three matches but the Jayhawks won all three to take the 1-0 lead before starting singles play.
The Pioneers tied Kansas in singles play, 3-3. Senior Sophia Bergner (Schechen, Germany) defeated Kansas' Haley Fournier 6-4, 6-2 in No. 1 singles. Junior Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.) fell to Maria Jose Cardona 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in No. 2 singles. Senior Emma Isberg (Tyreso, Sweden) beat Maria Belen Luduena 7-6, 5-7, 6-2, Mandy van den Eerenbeemt (Best, Netherlands) claimed victory over Dylan Windom 6-1, 6-2, Charlotte Derbyshire (Stockton, England) fell to Paulina Los 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 and Steffi Rath (Hochst, Austria) lost to Claire Dreyer, 6-2, 6-2.
