Eugene, Ore. - The University of Denver No. 55 women's tennis team fell to Oregon 5-2 on Sunday in Eugene, Ore.
The Pioneers won two of three doubles matches and took a 1-0 lead into singles play. Seniors Sophia Bergner (Schechen, Germany) and Steffi Rath (Hochst, Austria) defeated Patricia Skowronski and Nicole Long 8-5. The team of junior Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.) and freshman Kathryn Hughes (Wrexham, Wales) beat Sofia Hager and Brooke Hughes 8-4 in No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Rath picked up the Pioneers only singles victory, defeating Rabea Stueckemann 6-7 (1), 6-3, (10-7). Her effort was not enough however as the Pioneers fell to Oregon 5-2.
Denver's next match is Thursday, March 21 at University of Texas- Arlington. The match starts at 3 p.m. (MT).
