Five Pioneer Gymnasts Earn All-MRGC Honors

March 23, 2015

DENVER - Five University of Denver women's gymnastics student-athletes earned all-conference honors for a total of 10 spots following the 2015 Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Championships on Saturday.

Nina McGee (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the team with five All-MRGC honors, including First-Team in the all-around after posting a 39.600 victory at Saturday's meet. McGee, who will return for a fifth season of eligibility in 2016, also took home First-Team All-MRGC honors bars (9.900), beam (9.900) and floor (9.950), and Second-Team All-MRGC on vault (9.850).

In her career, McGee has now won nine conference First-Team and three Second-Team honors.

During Saturday night's championships, the conference also announced McGee as the 2015 Gymnast of the Year. She had the highest all-around RQS (39.370) for an MRGC gymnast entering the meet and led the conference on floor (9.955), while winning Gymnast of the Week for the first three weeks of the season and becoming ineligible for weekly awards for the remainder of the year.

Senior Ellese Sakai-Hart (Aptos, Calif.) captured two First-Team All-MRGC awards after scoring matching 9.875s on beam and floor at Saturday's conference championships. Her beam tally tied a career best. Sakai-Hart now owns five career all-conference honors.

All three of DU's sophomores earned conference awards. Rachel Fielitz (Walden, N.Y.) won First-Team honors on vault for her first-place tying 9.900. In each of her two seasons with the Pioneers, Fielitz has now won conference First-Team honors on vault.

Leah Lomonte (Katy, Texas) was also awarded conference First-Team for her 9.875 beam routine, which tied her with teammate Sakai-Hart for second in the meet. This is Lomonte's first all-conference award.

Julia Ross (Henderson, Nev.) scored a career-tying 9.850 on bars to earn Second-Team All-MRGC, her first career all-conference award. She tied for fifth on the event during Saturday's championships.

The Pioneers now turn their focus to the NCAA Regionals, set for April 4 at six sites across the country. Regionals placements will be announced during the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Selection Show on Monday at 1 p.m. MDT.
