WLAX v Dartmouth (24 MAR 15) - Full Game
DENVER- Redshirt freshman Nicole Martindale (Brooklin, Ontario) had a game high six points on three goals and three assists to lead the [-/RV] University of Denver women's lacrosse team to a 13-6 win over Dartmouth in the fifth game of a seven-game homestand on Tuesday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
Junior Monica Lucas (Kensington, Md.) recorded a hat trick for the Pioneers as well, while senior Rachael Dillon (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) added a pair of goals in the contest.
Seniors Kiki Boone (Cherry Hills Village, Colo.) and Jill Remenapp (Woodbine, Md.) rounded out Denver's multiple point performances on the afternoon, finishing with three (1G, 2A) and two (1G, 1A) respectively. Remenapp moved into sole possession of third place in NCAA history in assists with 168.
"I thought our girls worked really hard the last few days," head coach Liza Kelly said. "I thought we were much better with our draw controls today. Hannah was great again this afternoon."
Senior goalie Hannah Hook (Arnold, Md.) made nine saves in her sixth win of the season.
Dartmouth (0-7) opened the game on a 3-1 run inside the first seven minutes with three goals sandwiched around Remenapp's 13th goal of the season.
The Pioneers (6-2) responded to the Big Green's early game run with five-straight goals. Junior Rachael McKinnon (Brooklin, Ont.), Lucas, Martindale, junior Sarah Kasun (Bel Air, Md.) and Dillon all scored in the run. Martindale had two assists in the stretch, providing the helper on the first two goals in the run.
Jaclyn Leto stopped the run with 6:11 to play in the first half, snapping a 17:15 scoring drought to cut the Pioneers lead back to 6-4. The first-half goal for Leto was her 22nd of the season. Boone scored her first of the afternoon and her 15th of the season just over a minute later to extend the Denver lead back to 7-4 with 5:09 remaining.
After Martindale's second goal of the game gave Denver an 8-4 advantage, Leto completed her first half hat trick for the Big Green with 3:08 to go in the opening stanza. Lucas rounded out the first half tallies, scoring her second of the day with 4.4 seconds left off a feed in traffic from Boone to give Denver a 9-5 lead heading into the lockers.
Denver led Dartmouth 19-8 in shots in the opening 30 minutes, while also forcing eight Big Green turnovers.
Dillon scored her second of the day to open up the second half as the Pioneers had Dartmouth doubled up with 24 minutes to go in regulation. Martindale completed her third hat trick of the season just under seven minutes later, giving Denver an 11-5 lead with 17:16 to play in the game.
Lucas completed her first hat trick of the season with 2:30 to play in regulation to give Denver a six goal advantage. Freshman Katherine Fischer (Upper Nyack, N.Y.) scored her third of the season with 80 seconds remaining to round out the scoring for the afternoon.
The Pioneers outshot Dartmouth 30-15, as the Pioneers put 24 of their 30 shots on goal in the contest.
Denver will have a nine-day break before wrapping up its current seven-game homestand with a pair of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation games against Stanford (April 3/3 p.m. MT) and UC Davis (April 5/1 p.m. MT).
For the second-consecutive season, Denver will host the MPSF Championship from April 30-May 3 at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Tickets to this event are currently available for purchase at the University of Denver ticket office.
