Sept. 11, 2015 DENVER - The University of Denver men's tennis program will host six regular season home matches this season, head coach Ricardo Rubio announced today along with the rest of the 2015-2016 schedule.
The Pioneers will begin their fall schedule here in Denver at the MSU Denver Invitational on Sept. 18-19. The rest of the fall season features six tournaments at various locations throughout the U.S., three of which are Intercollegiate Tennis Association Championships. The ITA Regional Championship will be held in Albuquerque, N.M. from Oct. 21-15, followed by the ITA National Indoor Championship in Flushing, N.Y. from Nov. 12-15.
Denver will begin the spring season at the ITA Kickoff against South Carolina on Jan. 23, 2016 in Columbus, Ohio. The Pios will travel to Lincoln, Neb. on Jan. 29 to take on the University of Nebraska, followed by a match against the University of Oregon the next day.
DU will host Wichita State in its first home match of the spring season at Lifetime Fitness on Feb. 5 at 5 p.m. before facing Brigham Young University at 4 p.m. the following day.
"We have a very competitive schedule, starting with the ITA kick off against South Carolina," Rubio said. "The schedule will definitely put us in a great position to be ready for league play in April and we are looking forward to seeing what this group can do this year."
Denver returns two-time Summit League Player of the Year, Henry Craig, as well as juniors Alex Gasson and Diogo Rocha who were named to the 2014-15 All-Summit League team at the end of last season.
