DENVER - The 40th-ranked University of Denver women's tennis team beat the University of Nebraska-Omaha 7-0 today at Stapleton Tennis Pavilions on DU Campus. The women improved to 17-2 overall on the season and remain undefeated in Summit League play.

Denver went a perfect 3-0 in doubles matches, followed by another perfect 6-0 outing in singles play. Today was marked as Senior Day as the team honored seniors Charlotte Derbyshire (Stockton, England) and Evy Van Genechten (Antwerp, Belgium) prior to the singles matches.

"We looked really sharp today against Omaha," head coach Christian Thompson said after the match. They're always a tough team to play, but I'm very proud of our seniors, Charlotte and Evy, playing together in doubles and getting the job done at No. 3 doubles. In singles, they both looked very sharp and I was excited to have them play on their home courts for their last match."

Julia O'Loughlin (Highland Beach, Fla.), Maureen Slattery(Newport, Va.) and Bianca Mok(Boise, Idaho), Van Genechten, Derbyshire and Gracia Mboko (Burlington, Ontario) each earned singles victories for the Pioneers.

The pairs of O'Loughlin/Slattery, Morgan Barnhill(Austin, Texas)/Mok and Derbyshire/Van Genechten all won their doubles matches today by scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-2, respectively.

The two seniors representing the 2016 senior class this year were both very proud of their team's performance today, as well as extremely grateful for the ceremony put together by the team and coaching staff prior to the singles matches being played.

"I got a lot of lovely flowers from my teammates and the people who came to watch," Derbyshire said about the Senior Day ceremony. "I also got a picture book and some cereal because David says I play well when I eat Puffins. The match was really fun and the weather was perfect for it today. It's fun to have a lot of fans out here supporting us and I really enjoyed my last home match here at Denver."

"I think today went well for all of us," Van Genechten added. "I think we played really well and that was the main goal for our team. It was amazing to play my last home match here with all of my friends surrounding me and all of the fans that came out to support us, it was amazing. I really felt blessed and appreciated to have all of my friends and teammates here today and we all played for each other."

The team will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Tulsa, Okla. to take on Oral Roberts. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. MT.
