BOX SCORE

DENVER- The Denver Pioneers (7-3, 2-1 BIG EAST) scored early and often, scoring the first nine goals of the game, en route to a 16-1 victory over the Butler Bulldogs (1-10, 0-3 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon.

Ten different players found the back of the net for the Crimson and Gold and 11 different players recorded a point in a game that every player on the roster made an appearance.

Junior Julia Feiss was the leading scorer in the game with four goals, and added two assists for a team-high six points. Fellow junior Kendra Lanuza was credited with a team-high three assists and had two goals for five points on the afternoon. Maddie Baum led with seven of the team's 10 draw controls, Kennedy Milburn had three caused turnovers and Elizabeth Behrins had three ground balls to lead the respective categories.

Freshmen Bea Behrins and Sammie Morton had an afternoon to remember, scoring the first goals of their career, and freshman Amelia Cole made her first appearance in the net, playing 33:38, making four saves on eight shots faced, securing a ground ball and allowing a goal.

Baum won the first three draws for the Crimson and Gold, leading to three quick goals. It didn't take long to get on the board as Lanuza put the home team on the board just 15 seconds in to the game. Feiss tallied her first goal 43 seconds later on a Lanuza assist and Behrins made it 3-0 at 28:14 on an unassisted goal.

Lanuza scored her second goal at 26:25 with Feiss credited with the assist. For the next goal, the roles were reversed as Feiss scored her second goal off of a pass from Lanuza (24:55). Feiss made it back-to-back goals with 22:32 remaining in the half, this time with Milburn providing the pass, and securing the hat trick.

Feiss wasn't done getting involved in the scoring, assisting on the next goal for DU, as freshman Eliza Radochonski netted her first and only goal of the game (20:47) on a low shot that BU's goalie couldn't stop.

Caitlin Derry was the next Pioneer to score, putting one past the Butler goalie on a feed from Quintin Hoch-Bullen.

Hoch-Bullen got in the scoring column with back-to-back goals, at 7:37 on a Lanuza assist, and an unassisted goal with 1:47 left in the half, to give the Pioneers a 10-1 lead at the break. The freshman attacker finished with two goals on two shots and three points.

Butler got on the board with 2:49 before the half on an Adilyn Smith goal, but that was the only time the Bulldogs were able to do so. In the first half, Butler took seven shots, four of which were on goal and had 12 turnovers, five of which were caused by Denver. They were 7-12 on clears and 0-1 on free-position attempts.

When play resumed, Feiss and the Pioneers picked up where they left off with the junior attacker capping off her afternoon with her fourth goal at 26:48 to make it 11-1.

Sophomore midfielder Laura Milleker tallied the first of her career-high two goals (23:21) on a Molly Little assist, followed by Morton, who scored an unassisted goal with 16:51 to play and Behrins who scored at 10:19.

Milleker added another goal with 1:27 remaining and senior captain Hanna Bocklet closed the game with her first goal of the season with just one second showing on the board.

If not for the post, the Pioneers could have added three more goals, as Baum took the draw control following Hoch-Bullen's goal at 1:47 in the first half to the net, hitting the post on her shot, Audrey Schreck went coast-to-coast but hit the post on her shot in the second half, and Milleker hit the post on one of her shots in the second half.

All three goalies for DU manned the net, with sophomore Carson Gregg getting the start and the win. Gregg played the first 14:29, making two saves on two shots. Cole replaced Gregg at the 15:31 mark and remained in net until senior Katy Miele replaced her for the final 11:53 of play. Miele faced a single shot during her time in net which was blocked, but was able to add a ground ball to her stat sheet.

Denver dominated the stat sheet, outshooting Butler 35-11 (24-7 in shots on goal), with 16 different Pioneers recording a shot and 13 getting a shot on goal. DU also led 17-11 in ground balls, 10-8 in draw controls, 10-9 in caused turnovers and was 18-21 on clears. The DU defensive pressure caused Butler to go 12-23 on clears in the game and the visitors to have 25 turnovers.

UP NEXT: The Pioneers are back home on Wednesday, April 4 against the Georgetown Hoyas at 12 p.m.
