DENVER – Ryan Barrow,
Erich Fear and
Colin Staub have been named American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American Scholars for the 2017-2018 season, the AHCA announced on Friday.
The second-annual All-American scholars list honors those student-athletes who have attained a 3.6 grade point average or higher and played in at least 40 percent of his or her team's games during the respective season.
In his freshman season, Barrow notched nine (9) points (4-5-9) in 39 games for the Pioneers. The Banff, Alberta native was named to the 2018 National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Academic All-Conference Team and recognized as a 2018 NCHC Distinguished Scholar for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher.
In his sophomore season, Fear logged one (1) goal in 20 games. The defenseman and Winnetka, Ill. native was a member of the 2018 NCHC Academic All-Conference Team, named a 2018 NCHC Distinguished Scholar and received the Dr. Art Mason Award, awarded to the Pioneers' top scholar-athlete.
Staub recorded 22 points (7-15-22) in 41 games as a junior during the 2017-2018 season. The Colorado Springs, Colo. was named to the 2018 NCHC Academic All-Conference Team and recognized as a 2018 NCHC Distinguished Scholar.
A total of 488 Division I men and women were named AHCA All-American Scholars.
